Penedès, Corpinnat Gran Cuvee de Postre, Gramona

About Producer

Located in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia in the Alt Penedès region, 30km west of Barcelona, Gramona is a 22ha family estate founded in 1881 by Pau Batle. Married to Bartolomé Gramona, Pau’s daughter, Pilar, started to produce sparkling wine in the early 20th century. Today, 4th generation Jaume and Xavier Gramona are in charge, under the benevolent eye of father and uncle Josep Lluis.

Varietals

Blend of 34% xarel-lo, 33% macabeo and 33% parellada, traditional Penedès varietals, from biodynamically farmed vineyards on clay and limestone soil. 30-month ageing in bottles before disgorgement. The wine is labelled as Corpinnat sparkling wine.

About Appellation

Meant to be ’Heart of Penedès’, Corpinnat is a combination ‘cor’ meaning ‘heart’ in Catalan and ‘pinnat’ which derives from ‘pinnae’, the etymological origin of Penedès, meaning rocky or craggy in Latin. Corpinnat appellation was formed in 2015 by 9 highly respected producers who split from DO Cava. Corpinnat wines must be made from organic grapes, hand harvested in vineyards within the DO Penedès area, entirely vinified within the winery premises and aged for at least 18 months before disgorgement. Grapes have to be at least 90% from indigenous varieties.

Tasting Notes

Enticing nose of white stone fruits, quince, caramel, liquorice, sherry liqueur, brioche and floral notes, smooth mouthfeel with creamy texture and good focus, mouth-filling flavours of dried peach, citrus, acacia honey and toasted notes, refreshing line of acidity and fine bubbles leading onto a delightful, persistent finish. This is a delicious wine with excellent balance, nice structure and enchanting appeal. One of the longest ageing dessert sparkling, it’s fresh and charmingly sweet without being remotely cloying.
