2018 Tasmania, Pinot Noir, Sailor Seeks Horse

About Producer

Paul and Gilli Lipscombe met in London in 2004, he from Essex and she from Brisbane, and found out a common passion for wine. After working vintage in Languedoc in 2005, the pair decided to sign in for viticultural and winemaking studies in Margaret River. After stints in Margaret River, Oregon and New Zealand, they settled in Tasmania in 2010 and stumbled upon a 6.5ha dilapidated vineyard located in the Huon Valley, planted in 2005 on a northeast-facing slope sheltered from the southwesterly cold. ‘Sailor Seeks Horse’ refers to the story of an American traveller who, having sailed solo around the globe and ridden across the US from coast to coast on a mule, wanted to travel around Tasmania by horse and was looking for anyone who would lend him one. Paul and Gilli saw it as a fitting metaphor for their own endeavour.

Tasting Notes

Fragrant nose of red and black fruits, pepper, earth and dried flowers, smooth mouthfeel with seamless texture and good depth, oodles of flavours of blueberry, strawberry, cherry and baking spices, bright acidity and supple tannins leading onto a pleasant, savoury finish. This is a well crafted wine with controlled power, remarkable fruit purity, lively freshness and no shortage of complexity. Displaying an exquisite balance between elegance, concentration and energy, it’s a cracking pinot noir that can easily stand up to some very fine burgundy. (04/2022)
