About Appellation
Vines were first planted in the Yarra Valley in 1838 and viticulture surged through the 1860s and 1870s until the 1930s, when the economic depression brought a halt to wine production. It was not until the late 1960s that the Valley saw the first signs of viticultural renaissance when vineyards began to reappear in the region, resulting in a large number of newly established wineries by the 1990s.
Tasting Notes
Inviting nose of red fruits, baking spices, meaty aromas, pepper, smoke, graphite and rose petals, refined mouthfeel with silky texture, excellent depth and remarkable precision, multilayered flavours of morello cherry, blackberry, black currant, dark plum, liquorice, clove and hints of cumin and aniseed interlaced with iron mineral undertones, well-embedded acidity and polished tannins leading onto a long, savoury finish. From 30 year-old vines and matured for 10 months in French oak, this is a cracking wine with composed elegance, amazing aromatic intensity and vibrant freshness. Cloaking its controlled power in alluring succulence and subtle finesse, it’s deliciously crisp and full of flavour and vivacity. Brimming with Northern Rhône-like personality, it’s a brilliant rendition of cool climate shiraz indeed. (10/2023)
