About Château Léoville Barton
Château Léoville Barton boasts a legacy dating back to 1826, when Irishman Hugh Barton acquired a portion of the original Domaine de Léoville. Nearly two centuries later, the property remains in the hands of the Barton family—a rarity in Bordeaux. Under the stewardship of Anthony Barton (1930–2022), the estate underwent a remarkable revival in the 1980s, producing a series of consistent and critically acclaimed vintages. Today, Anthony’s daughter Lilian Barton Sartorius leads the estate, with her children Mélanie and Damien now actively involved in its operations.
The 50-hectare vineyard is planted with 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot, and 2% Cabernet Franc, thriving on Saint-Julien's gravelly soils over clay and limestone sublayers. Known for its structured, age-worthy wines, Château Léoville Barton remains one of the Médoc’s most iconic estates.
Focus on the Saint-Julien Appellation
Situated between Margaux and Pauillac, Saint-Julien is home to 11 grands crus classés in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification. The 910 hectares of vineyards feature gravelly soils, benefiting from the Gironde estuary’s temperate microclimate. Cabernet Sauvignon reigns supreme, supported by Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, creating wines known for their balance, finesse, and longevity.
