About Château Latour
Château Latour, one of the most revered names in Bordeaux, has a rich history dating back to the 14th century. Located in the Pauillac appellation, the estate spans 92 hectares, with its heart being the Enclos, a 47-hectare plot that produces Latour's grand vin. The estate's terroir is defined by its unique gravelly soil over a clay and limestone subsoil, providing excellent drainage and deep-rooted vines that yield complex and age-worthy wines.
Owned by François Pinault since 1993, Château Latour has embraced sustainable viticulture, including organic and biodynamic practices, while maintaining its reputation for producing some of the world's most celebrated wines. The estate’s meticulous attention to detail in both vineyard management and winemaking ensures exceptional quality.
Focus on Pauillac Appellation
Pauillac is a Médoc commune known for producing some of Bordeaux's most prestigious wines. Its gravelly soils and proximity to the Gironde estuary create the perfect conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon, which dominates the blends, supported by Merlot and small amounts of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Pauillac is home to three First Growths—Château Latour, Château Lafite Rothschild, and Château Mouton Rothschild—cementing its status as a world-class wine region.
1996 Pauillac, Château Latour: A Timeless Expression of Power and Elegance
The 1996 Chateau Latour reveals an alluring nose of dark fruits, game, cedar, graphite, tobacco, and fresh leather, complemented by earth and violets. The dense mouthfeel is luxurious, with a cashmere-like texture, ample volume, and remarkable depth. Multi-layered flavours of raspberry, blackberry, currant, blueberry preserve, plum, black olive, and balsamic notes are intertwined with savoury mineral undertones.
Bright acidity and melted tannins lead to a long, saline finish. Having mellowed its youthful muscularity, this 1996 Latour is brimming with spirited energy and spellbinding complexity. At 28 years old, it balances power and grace, exuding refreshing acidity that extends through the lingering aftertaste. It’s a stunningly youthful wine that heralds the sensational vintages from the 2000s onward—a truly phenomenal Latour.

2004 Pauillac, Château Latour: A Vintage of Refined Power
The 2004 Château Latour opens with an enthralling nose of dark berry fruits, plum, graphite, cedar, and undergrowth. The silky mouthfeel, combined with beautiful structure, reveals impressive concentration and depth, while multi-layered flavours of raspberry, black currant, cherry, crushed rocks, sous-bois, and hints of liquorice add complexity. Savory mineral undertones, racy acidity, and resolved tannins lead to a long, persistent finish.
Despite the challenges of the vintage, this wine stands out, slightly ahead of its first growth peers in 2004. Confidently dense and powerful, yet wonderfully elegant, the 2004 Chateau Latour showcases the full magnificence of Latour. Its subtle complexity, textural grace, and exquisite freshness demonstrate the innate class of this phenomenal wine, offering immense pleasure even at this early stage of its drinking window.

2005 Pauillac, Les Forts de Latour: A Second Wine of Remarkable Prestige
Created in 1966 as Chateau Latour's second wine, Les Forts de Latour has since become a standout in its own right, often surpassing classified growths. The 2005 vintage showcases a captivating nose of red and black berry fruits, smoke, tobacco, cedar, graphite, and fresh flowers.
The palate offers a supple mouthfeel with a silky texture, broad structure, and remarkable depth. This vintage highlights the exceptional quality of 2005, delivering excellent balance, purity, and freshness.
