Château La Conseillante: A Jewel of Pomerol

About Château La Conseillante

Nestled on the prestigious Pomerol plateau and neighbouring world-renowned estates such as Cheval Blanc, Figeac, and Vieux Château Certan, Château La Conseillante is a historic vineyard with a legacy dating back to the 18th century. The estate takes its name from Catherine Conseillan, an influential Libourne merchant who purchased the property in the 1730s. Since 1871, it has been under the stewardship of the Nicolas family, now in its fifth generation.

Covering 12 hectares of blue clay and sandy gravel soils over a subsoil rich in "crasse de fer" (iron-rich bands of sand), the vineyard is planted with 82% Merlot and 18% Cabernet Franc. These exceptional terroirs, combined with the expertise of winemaker Marielle Cazaux and consultant Michel Rolland, contribute to the estate’s reputation for producing wines of exceptional purity, elegance, and balance.

Focus on Pomerol Appellation

Pomerol, with its 792 hectares of vineyards, is a treasure trove of rich history and exceptional terroirs. First planted by the Romans, the vineyards were expanded in the 12th century by the Knights Hospitallers, who set up their Commanderie in nearby Libourne. The small plateau at the heart of the appellation is celebrated for its "boutonnière" of blue clay soils, which create the ideal conditions for growing Merlot, the dominant varietal. Cabernet Franc serves as a complementary grape, enhancing the structure and aromatics of Pomerol wines.

2011 Pomerol, Château La Conseillante: A Testament to Graceful Craftsmanship

The 2011 vintage of Chateau La Conseillante presents an inviting bouquet of dark fruits, incense, graphite, forest floor, and violets. The palate is smooth and seamless, offering multi-layered flavours of blackberry, blueberry, morello cherry, and damson, interlaced with earthy mineral undertones. Subtle hints of mushroom, cocoa powder, and dried herbs add complexity, while fine acidity and silky tannins carry the wine to a long, fresh finish.

This wine showcases Chateau La Conseillante's signature elegance, balance, and finesse. While not as powerful as vintages from superior years, the 2011 remains a beautifully crafted wine, ideal for enjoying while waiting for the iconic 2015 and 2016 vintages to mature.

Blend of 82% merlot and 18% cabernet franc, aged in 65% new oak.

Why Choose Château La Conseillante?

Château La Conseillante is synonymous with refined Pomerol winemaking. Its dedication to quality and terroir-driven wines ensures a unique expression in every vintage. The 2011 vintage, with its seamless texture and delicate complexity, is a testament to the estate’s legacy of craftsmanship and charm.
